Summer in the City is a vibrant month-long programme of free and family-friendly events taking place throughout August across Limerick City.
Delivered by Limerick City and County Council, Summer in the City transforms streets, quays and public spaces into vibrant destinations where people can gather, connect, relax and enjoy the very best of summer in the heart of Limerick. Throughout August, the city centre comes alive with an exciting programme of entertainment, culture, sport, wellness and community activities designed to appeal to all ages, creating opportunities for residents and visitors alike to experience the city in new and engaging ways.
From live music and street theatre to sporting exhibitions, skateboarding events, family entertainment, community celebrations, outdoor dining experiences, wellness activities and interactive attractions, Summer in the City showcases the energy, creativity and community spirit that make Limerick unique. Whether enjoying a community Long Table Dinner, discovering a new city-centre experience, spending time with family and friends, or simply soaking up the atmosphere, the programme encourages people to spend more time in the city and rediscover everything it has to offer, while also experiencing how Limerick's public spaces can be reimagined as lively, people-focused places offering improved walkability and enhanced opportunities for active travel.
As many of these principles will feature in the forthcoming Limerick City Centre Transport Plan, the programme provides a real-world opportunity to trial new ideas, gather feedback and explore how a more connected and accessible city centre can support community life, local business and visitor experiences.
The experiences and lessons gained throughout the summer will help inform the future development of Limerick's city centre while giving people a glimpse of what is to come. In this way, Summer in the City not only celebrates the city as it is today but also helps shape its future.
