Limerick City and County Council is inviting people of all ages to enjoy Summer in the City, a vibrant month-long programme of events taking place throughout August across Limerick City.
Transforming streets, quaysides and public spaces into welcoming places to gather, connect and enjoy, Summer in the City will showcase a new energy in the city centre while creating opportunities for people to experience Limerick in new and exciting ways.
Funded by the 2026 Mayoral Fund, key city centre locations will come alive with an exciting mix of culture, sport, wellness and community activities designed to appeal to all ages. Visitors can look forward to live music, street theatre, sporting exhibitions, skateboarding events, family entertainment, community celebrations, outdoor dining experiences, wellness activities, an urban beach experience, and interactive attractions that encourage people to spend time in the city and discover everything Limerick has to offer.
The programme, which includes a large number of FREE family friendly activities, builds on the momentum of the Mayor's Superblock pilot, to explore how more people-focused streets can create a vibrant, accessible and welcoming city centre. Together, the initiatives offer alternative views of how Limerick's public spaces can become places where communities, businesses and visitors thrive.
This is all part of a new Council led conversation about how Limerick might work, in advance of the publication of the new mobility and public realm strategies for the city.
Mayor of Limerick John Moran said:
"We are all passionate about Limerick City and know that with a little reimagining it can offer so much more. Summer in the City is about showing what's possible when we animate our streets and give them back to the people. Alongside our Superblock pilot, we're creating new spaces where people can spend time together, enjoy great experiences and see the city in a completely new light. The seaside isn't easily accessible for everyone, so of course we're bringing a beach to Limerick, we’re putting on attractions and entertainment, and creating opportunities for families to make the most of the final weeks of the summer holidays. This is all about creating space and spaces for conversations about our city and its future.”

Director General of Limerick City and County Council, Dr. Pat Daly added:

By bringing together communities, local businesses, artists, performers and sporting organisations, we're creating experiences that encourage people to spend time in the city while showcasing everything Limerick has to offer."
Many of the events are free to attend, with activities taking place across various city centre locations throughout August, including The Crescent, O’Connell Avenue, Mount Kenneth Skate Park and Steamboat Quay.

- TAFISA European Sports for All Games | Limerick City | 8th & 9th August @ 11am
Limerick city will come alive as the European Sport for All Games brings people from across Europe together for a vibrant weekend of sport, culture and fun.
- All Ireland Skateboarding Championship | Mount Kenneth Skate Park | 8th August @ 12pm
The All Ireland Skateboarding Championships return to where it all began in Mount Kenneth, Limerick.
- Urban Beach | Steamboat Quay | 1st, 2nd, 8th, 9th, 15th, 16th,22nd, 23rd, 29th, 30th August @ 12pm - 6pm
