As Summer in the City draws to a close, Limerick City and County Council is encouraging residents and visitors to make the most of the final days of summer and enjoy one last weekend of free events, vibrant public spaces and city-centre experiences that transformed Limerick throughout August.
Since its launch at the beginning of the month, Summer in the City has brought sport, culture, community events, outdoor dining, family entertainment and wellness activities into streets, parks and public spaces across the city.
From the Urban Beach at Steamboat Quay and the TAFISA European Sport for All Games to Skateboarding Championships, live performances, walking tours and community festivals, the programme has showcased Limerick at its most welcoming, creative and active.
The initiative, funded through the 2026 Mayoral Fund and developed in consultation with local businesses and stakeholders, was designed to encourage more people to visit the city centre, spend longer there and discover everything Limerick has to offer. Throughout August, reimagined public spaces including Daniel’s Garden Lounge at The Crescent, The Glentworth Social on Lower Glentworth Street, The Hop Garden on Back Lane and the Urban Beach on Steamboat Quay have created new opportunities for people to gather, relax and connect.

Over the past month we have seen people spending more time together in the city centre and local businesses benefiting from the reimagined public spaces. We have welcomed visitors from across the world to Limerick this August and we have shown them the potential of Limerick’s future.
As summer draws to a close, I would like to express my gratitude to everyone, officials at Limerick City and County Council, volunteers, residents, organisations and organisers who have played their part in making this such a memorable summer. I would encourage everyone to come into the city, enjoy the atmosphere, support local businesses and capture the energy of a month that has brought new energy and life to our streets. We look forward already to next year!"

Make the Most of Summer in The City
Limerick Sound will bring music to Steamboat Quay from 5pm on Friday, setting the tone for an exciting few days ahead. Alongside the music, The French Table BBQ will also be taking place on Steamboat Quay, creating the perfect atmosphere to enjoy great food, live entertainment, and summer evenings by the river. Don’t forget to head to the Urban Beach at Steamboat Quay for a relaxing coffee and chat.
Saturday is the busiest day of the programme and promises something for everyone. The day begins with Song Tales sa Spéir from 12pm to 3pm at The Crescent, O'Connell Avenue, followed by the colourful creativity of Chalkfest from 1pm to 3pm. Dance enthusiasts can enjoy Limerick Swing from 3pm to 6pm on Lower Glentworth Street, before gathering at The Crescent for the Long Table at The Crescent from 6pm. The day concludes with the beautiful Limerick Opera Festival - Open Air Aria, taking place from 7pm to 9pm at The Crescent, O'Connell Avenue.
The programme finishes on Sunday 30 August with another wonderful day of entertainment. Song Tales sa Spéir returns from 12pm to 3pm on Lower Glentworth Street, while Pitch'd Productions Present: Now and Then takes place at 2pm at The Crescent, O'Connell Avenue. Families can also enjoy Captain Cormac at 3pm, while the wonderfully eccentric Irish National Clown Orchestra of Ireland will perform at 1pm, 4pm and 6pm, all at The Crescent, O'Connell Avenue.
Business as Usual
It’s business as usual for the final weekend of August, with easy access to shops, cafés, restaurants, cultural venues and Summer in the City events across the city.
Only limited traffic management measures are in place to facilitate specific activations, and there are multiple routes into the city centre for visitors. Road notices, maps and visitor information can be found at Limerick.ie/summer.
Free parking is also available for the remaining weekends in August at the Limerick City and County Council Car Park (behind Merchant's Quay), accessed via Nicholas Street. After 4pm on Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.
The programme has been designed to balance accessibility, city centre animation and business needs, with only limited traffic management measures required.
