Michael Hartnett Annual Poetry Award 2020

Gradam Bliantúil Filíochta i gCuimhnear Mhícheál Ó hAirtnéide 2020

This annual award was established by Limerick County Council and is jointly funded by Limerick City and County Council and The Arts Council to mark Michael Hartnett’s contribution to literature in English and Irish. The award of €4,000 will be made to the winning poet on the basis of a third book of poetry, or subsequent book of poetry, published in the last two years, i.e. 2018-2019.

The Michael Hartnett Annual Poetry Award is awarded in alternate years to books of poetry in the Irish and English language. This year, 2020, the award will be made to a poet writing in English. This year’s adjudicators are poets Thomas McCarthy and Geraldine Mitchell.

The closing date for applications is Friday 31st July 2020.
Applications must be submitted by publishing houses.

The Michael Hartnett Annual Poetry Award will be awarded to the winning poet in October when the Éigse Michael Hartnett Literary & Arts Festival will present a condensed programme in line with COVID-19 national guidelines, in Newcastle West, Co. Limerick.
