The Brookville Avenue Active Travel Scheme has been delivered by Limerick City & County Council. It was funded by the National Transport Authority.
The Scheme provides cycle connectivity from the Moylish Roundabout to Caherdavin Cross (formerly Ivan’s Cross).
The Scheme forms a major element of the cycle network for the North side of the city, assisting with Active Travel connectivity to key indicators such as TUS, the Jetland Shopping Centre and the city centre.
The Scheme will connect directly with the TUS to City Centre Scheme once this is constructed.
A two-way segregated cycle track has been installed, along with the tightening of a number of junctions for pedestrian safety.
The cycle lane within the Scheme is 2.6 metres in width and is segregated from the road space via the use of ‘orca’ separators, which are considered appropriate for industry standard.
The Scheme went through a statutory process under Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act between September and October 2022.
The Scheme was constructed and delivered in 2023.
