Project Overview
The TUS to City Centre Active Travel Scheme is an Active Travel project connecting TUS Moylish Campus with Limerick City Centre.
The project includes improvements along the Cratloe Road, Sexton Street North, High Road and Bellefield Gardens corridor, creating improved connections for people walking, wheeling, cycling and accessing public transport. The scheme forms part of Limerick's wider Active Travel network and supports connectivity between residential areas, education and employment locations, and other city centre destinations.
Why is This Project Needed?
The scheme is intended to improve accessibility, safety and connectivity for people travelling between the TUS Moylish Campus, surrounding communities and Limerick City Centre.
The project supports the development of a connected Active Travel network on the north side of Limerick City and seeks to make walking, wheeling and cycling more attractive options for everyday journeys, including travel to education, work, services and public transport.
What Improvements are Proposed?
The scheme includes:
- Segregated cycle facilities.
- Footpath upgrades.
- Dedicated pedestrian and cycle crossing facilities.
- Bus stop improvements.
- Side-road and junction upgrades.
- An inbound bus lane on Cratloe Road.
- Road resurfacing works.
- Landscaping and planting improvements.
Project Area
The scheme extends between the TUS Moylish Campus and the junction of Belfield Gardens and the Ennis Road.
Statutory Process and Consultation
This project progressed through a public consultation process and was approved through the Part 8 planning process in December 2022.
