A scheme to enhance pedestrian safety and school access in Garryowen through improved crossings, traffic-calming measures, upgraded walking infrastructure, and better public transport and lighting.
Location: Greenhill Road from Ballysimon Road junction to Garryowen Road and Upper Penny Pennywell Junction to Downey Street and Flood Street junction
The elements of this project are:
- Five new pedestrian crossings.
- Build outs for traffic calming purposes and permit parking improvements.
- Reconfiguration of traffic flow to a one-way system at Pennywell Upper, Ball Alley Place (Sarsfield Court) and Cathedral Court.
- Junction tightening at various locations throughout the scheme.
- Visual elements at two school locations by way of bollards and road markings.
- Two new bus stops on South Claughaun Road.
- New footpath construction at various locations throughout the scheme.
- Upgrades to public lighting.
