As Mayor of Limerick, I am pleased to confirm the signing of a number of new Mayoral Orders this week that each mark real steps forward for communities across the city and county in the areas of housing, tourism and transport.
Housing:
- Approval to advance 86 new homes at Greenpark, Dock Road
I’m pleased to have signed a Mayoral Order ordering the releasing of Capital Advance Leasing Facility (CALF) funding to Clúid Housing Association, which makes it possible to progress the delivery of 86 new homes at Greenpark, Dock Road, Limerick.
The focus of the scheme is on rightsizing and the elderly. These 86 social homes will be delivered and managed by Clúid as part of an overall development of 371 homes. The remaining 285 units will be sold on the private market.
The scheme is scheduled for completion in Q1 2027.
- Approval for delivery of 7 new homes in Broadford
I’m pleased to have also signed a Mayoral Order ordering the advancing of loan to the Broadford Voluntary Housing Association (BVHA) and Community Childcare Facility Company.
This loan will enable the delivery of seven units of accommodation at Nunan’s Corner, Broadford. The development will be made up of 4 two-bedroomed units and 3 one-bedroomed units.
These properties, when built, will be allocated to elderly people. The allocations of five of the units will be decided by Limerick City and County Council and taken from the housing waiting list, while the other two will be decided by the BVHA.
Construction will commence in early 2026.
I want to thank the team within the Housing Directorate in Limerick City and County Council, as well as the teams at Clúid and the BVHA, for their continued work across these projects.
Transport:
- Purchase of land to progress Foynes to Limerick Road
I’m pleased to have signed a number of significant Orders that relate to the purchase of land to deliver the much-needed Foynes to Limerick road, which will provide a motorway upgrade from Rathkeale to Attyflin.
This set of orders are related to the advancement of the Shannon Estuary growth triangle and will help to advance the road beyond Adare, all the way to Foynes.
The project is 35km in length, and will connect the Core Port of Foynes to the motorway network near Limerick.
I want to thank the team within the Transport Directorate in Limerick City and County Council for their continued focus on delivery.
Tourism:
- Licence for property for use on Askeaton Tourist Trail
I have Ordered that Limerick City and County Council enters a 12-month licence agreement for a property at Brewery Lane, Askeaton.
It will mean this property, which was previously derelict and was acquired through Compulsory Purchase Order and then renovated by Limerick City and County Council, will be used as a location on the popular Askeaton Tourist Trail following an agreement with the Askeaton Civic Trust.
As part of our Shannon Estuary growth triangle plans, Askeaton will be a key town in our focus. I am hopeful this will provide a further boost to the excellent local tourism offering in county Limerick.
This latest round of Mayoral Orders demonstrate the action we’re continuing to take in Limerick City and County Council to deliver housing in both the city and county; to upgrade our transport infrastructure; and to improve our tourism offering in rural Limerick.
We are backing people, backing communities and shaping a fairer future together.
More for Limerick.
