Statement from Mayor of Limerick John Moran on Signing of Mayoral Orders

As Mayor of Limerick, I am pleased to confirm the signing of a number of new Mayoral Orders this week that each mark real steps forward for communities across the city and county in the areas of recreation, housing and public lighting.

Housing:

  • Appointment of experts for provision of Design Feasibility Assessment Services for SMART Housing

I’m pleased to have signed a Mayoral Order ordering the appointment of Volumetric Building Companies-International SPZO for the provision of Design Feasibility Assessment Services in relation to the SMART Housing Programme.

This continues the progress of what is a key objective under the More for Limerick Mayoral Programme 2024-2029.

I want to thank the team within the Housing Directorate in Limerick City and County Council for their continued work across this project.

Sports & Recreation:

  • Agreement to draw down grant funding for upgrade works at Mungret Park soccer pitch

I’m pleased to have signed a Mayoral Order which will advance the draw down of grant funding from the Sports Capital & Equipment Programme for works to the soccer pitch at Mungret Park.

The release of this funding will allow upgrades to the grass pitch at the facility to make it more durable. It is intended that the works will assist local club Mungret Regional FC in growing its membership, while alleviating pressure on the club’s current resources by supplying an alternative pitch for training activities.

I want to thank the team within the Regeneration, Community, Sport & Rural Development Directorate in Limerick City and County Council for their continued work on this matter.

Heritage:

  • Appointment of experts to prepare Architectural Heritage Impact Assessment in Abbeyfeale

I’m pleased to have signed a Mayoral Order ordering the appointment of Kenneally Ltd. to prepare an Architectural Heritage Impact Assessment for the former Bank of Ireland building in Abbeyfeale.

This is a key preliminary step in preparing the building for new uses, I am also working with West Limerick Resources to see how they could help me to see improved delivery of a wide range of projects for 2026 in Abbeyfeale and I am willing to fund a solution if we can find one from the Mayoral fund.

I want to thank the team within the Regeneration, Community, Sport & Rural Development Directorate in Limerick City and County Council for their continued work on this matter.

This latest round of Mayoral Orders demonstrate the action we’re continuing to take in Limerick City and County Council to deliver the many services that we are tasked with providing for the public.
