Pathfinder

Active travel linkages between Limerick’s three main third-level institutions – Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), University of Limerick (UL), and Mary Immaculate College – form a demonstrator project under the Pathfinder Programme, part of the National Sustainable Mobility Policy.

Location: City Canal to O’Connell Street via Lock Quay, Bridge Road and Patrick Street.

The elements of this project are:

  • Reallocation of existing road space between Lock Quay and Patrick Street/O’Connell Street
  • Dedicated cycling facilities to accommodate an increase in pedestrian, cyclist and mobility-impaired users on the route
  • Road widening / narrowing, rededication of the road space to provide footpaths, cycle facilities, road lighting, boundary treatments, accommodation works, traffic calming measures, shared surfaces, new road markings, upgraded road signage, services diversions as required, new surface water drainage system, and all ancillary works necessary for completion.
