Heritage Plans and Strategies

Community–led Village Design Statement (VDS) Toolkit prepared by the Heritage Council.

The Heritage Council in partnership with Dublin City Council, Meath County Council, and communities in Sandymount Dublin, and Julianstown, County Meath published a step-by-step guide for local community stakeholders preparing village design statements in a collaborative and participative process.

The village design statements tool kit is based on the principles of the UNECE Aarhus Convention and the European Landscape Convention. Village design statements differ from local area plans as they are non-statutory plans. They generally give guidance as to how the local community would like to see their village develop. Village design statements have been prepared by the Council in the past with communities in Murroe, Athea and Dromcollogher.
