Limerick is getting ready for an evening with plenty of reasons to smile as Twilight Thursdays returns on Thursday 24 September, with this month’s city-wide celebration of the night-time economy getting a distinctly comedic twist as it coincides with the opening night of the Limerick Comedy Festival.
Twilight Thursdays is part of Limerick City and County Council’s ongoing Night-Time Economy initiative, which works with local businesses, communities, cultural organisations and venues to create a more vibrant, welcoming and diverse city centre experience late into the evening.
Taking place on the last Thursday of every month, Twilight Thursdays encourages people to stay longer, explore more of the city and experience Limerick after normal business hours.
This month, bring your sense of humour, as the curtain rises on the Limerick Comedy Festival this Thursday, bringing four days of stand-up, live comedy and unique performances to venues across the city.

- Phil Flannery’s Bar
- The White House Bar
Twilight Thursdays also delivers a mix of live music performances, cultural showcases, creative workshops and family activities, offering something for all ages and interests.
This month’s programme features a Celebration of Mexican Independence Day at Limerick Milk Market, you can create beeswax works of art at The Glow Bowl Experience workshop at Wickham Way, join the Siege of 1691 Walking Tour or discover The Art of Bookmaking at O’Mahony’s Booksellers.

September also marks the return of thousands of students to Limerick’s universities and other third-level institutions, making Twilight Thursdays a timely opportunity for students - particularly those arriving in the city for the first time - to get out and discover what Limerick has to offer.

Getting Involved
Businesses and organisations across the city are encouraged to get involved in Twilight Thursdays by hosting events, extending their opening hours and creating special experiences for visitors and residents.

The Night-Time Economy
Twilight Thursdays forms part of Limerick’s participation in the national Night-Time Economy Pilot Programme, which is supported and funded by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport.
Limerick is one of nine locations participating in the national pilot, which seeks to stimulate night-time economy activity through stronger collaboration at local level, supported by a dedicated Night-Time Economy Advisor.
The initiative is being delivered locally by Limerick City and County Council, working with businesses, cultural organisations, community groups, hospitality providers, performers and other partners to help create a safer, more vibrant and inclusive city after dark.
Funding available through the Council’s Night-Time Economy Pilot Programme Scheme, is distributed through grants via the Twilight Thursday initiative to support activity and animation in the city.
