Limerick City and County Council has launched an initiative to support community groups intending to promote Christmas gatherings within their communities during the upcoming festive period.

€20,000 is to be made available, as grants of up to €5,000 at the discretion of a judging panel, to supplement the cost of festive activities and ensure a vibrant and inclusive Christmas experience across Limerick.

The funding is being allocated from Mayor of Limerick John Moran’s discretionary Mayoral Fund.

The funding may be used to fund items such as; Christmas trees, entertainment, temporary festive structures, Christmas-themed installations, Christmas displays, Christmas lighting or pop-up festive photo spots.

Applications for funding are invited from the following sectors:

  • Local voluntary organisations
  • Neighbourhood committees and residents’ associations
  • Sports clubs and youth groups
  • Cultural and arts organisations
  • Charities

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, commented:

“As Mayor, I am proud to launch this initiative, aimed at supporting our communities across the length and breadth of our city and county in holding celebrations during the most wonderful time of the year. This is an idea that is rooted in the belief that the heart of Limerick’s festive season is found in our people and their community spirit. While the decorations and events themselves are important, we also want to empower our local groups to create moments of joy, belonging and happiness for all. We are investing in the connections that make Limerick vibrant and inclusive at Christmas time. I encourage every community group, sports club and voluntary organisation to bring forward their ideas. Let’s work together to make Limerick sparkle with warmth and welcome this Christmas.”

Events availing of the Community Christmas Offerings initiative should enhance local Christmas celebrations and should be inclusive for all members of the community. Funding will be considered for Limerick-based community-led initiatives only and for profit business applications will not be considered.

Groups are asked to submit their Expressions of Interest by email to business@limerick.ie by 5pm on Thursday 27th of November.
