Statement from Mayor of Limerick John Moran re: missions to New York and Rotterdam

  • Mayor of Limerick John Moran and Brooklyn Governor

I am pleased to report that I and my Limerick City and County Council colleagues have had a productive number of days in New York that included being present at Bethpage Black for the climax of the Ryder Cup 2025.

Earlier in the week, I was happy to follow up on some of our initial investor engagements held a number of weeks ago in New York. This included signing a memorandum of understanding with the Brooklyn Fashon Incubator, following our recently-announced plans to develop a new Limerick Museum of Fashion at the former Mary St Garda Station site, which is a key task in the More for Limerick mayoral programme.

We believe, through our sessions in New York throughout the month, we have met a number of key people who can help us in continuing to make our city and county a better place to live, work, learn and invest in.

Following the official handing over of the putter on Sunday, I am already looking forward to the 2027 Ryder Cup, to be held in our very own Adare. The work on ensuring the size and scale of the tournament leaves a positive, lasting legacy on Limerick is already well underway.

I am continuing overseas engagements with a visit to Rotterdam in the Netherlands this week. I am pleased to have been invited by the European Urban Initiative to engage in a focused policy lab, which will involve key discussions around accessing European funding. It is increasingly important in an ever-changing domestic and global dynamic that Limerick is at the table when decisions impacting EU funding are made.

Following Rotterdam, I am looking forward to addressing the Irish Planning Institute at their 50th anniversary autumn conference on October 2nd.

It is a timely opportunity, just days out from the announcing of the national Budget 2026, to emphasise, in the unique way that Limerick can given my mandate as Mayor, the importance of adequately funding local authorities to deliver on the many hundreds of services we provide each day.

We are continuing to tell Limerick’s story at home and abroad.

More for Limerick.
