Christmas is here! Festive season gets underway in Limerick!

The Christmas in Limerick season has officially begun! Limerick’s Christmas lights are shining brightly and there is a host of festive fun events taking place across the city and county starting this weekend and running right throughout December.  

Limerick City and County Council has launched Limerick.ie/Christmas celebrating all things Christmas including an exciting entertainment line-up, free festive parking, shopping, winter warmer hotel breaks and not to be missed Christmas in Limerick competition giveaways! 

With almost one hundred events already set to take place this Christmas in Limerick there is something for all ages to enjoy. Here’s a roundup of some of the Christmas crackers you won’t want to miss this festive season: 

Get the Festive Feeling at the Christmas Village 
10am – 10pm | Fri 25 – Sun 27 Nov • Thu – Sun 01 – 18 Dec • Mon 19 – Thu 22 Dec 

Arthur’s Quay Park is Christmas central this year! Enjoy delicious seasonal treats, carnival games, ice-skating, browse the festive stalls or toast the season with a tasty tipple from the Ice Bar at the Christmas Village

Get Your Skates on
10am – 10pm | Fri 25 Nov – Sun 08 Jan  

Limerick on Ice is back and is one of the only cities in the country to have a festive ice rink. Whether you're a seasoned skater or a complete beginner, this is the ultimate winter fun activity for all to enjoy! 

Happy Days at the Christmas Tree Maze
10am-6pm | Sat & Sun 26 Nov – 18 Dec  

Prepare to be a-mazed at this new free family festive fun experience! Little ones and the young at heart are invited to wander through the magical Christmas Tree Maze, discover all its secrets and make it through to the other side! 

A Christmas Tale at the Castle
5.30pm, 6.30pm, 7.30pm | Sat 26 Nov – Wed 21 Dec 

Spend an enchanted evening at King John’s Castle this Christmas. The castle courtyard will come to life with colourful illuminations in an immersive 3D audio visual festive animation show. Afterwards visitors can soak up the atmosphere as carol singers treat audiences to cheerful Christmas classics and food trucks serve up tasty seasonal treats! 

Treats on the Street
12pm – 8pm (Mon – Fri) • 10am – 8pm (Sat & Sun) | Fri 25 Nov – Thu 22 Dec  

Bedford Row and Thomas Street will be a hive of activity with a host of artisan traders selling handmade crafts, Christmas gifts and sumptuous seasonal treats at the Limerick Festive Fair. Each weekend, carolers, choirs and bands will take to the stage to provide musical merriment, sure to get shoppers into the Christmas spirit! 

Get Crafty this Christmas  
Workshops: Fri 09 – Sun 11 Dec & Fri 16 Dec | Parade: Sun 18 Dec  

Nothing says Christmas like twinkling lights on winter nights! Join Lumen Street Theatre for a fun-filled festive workshop to make your very own magical lantern before coming together for the Parade of Lanterns to show off your colourful crafty creations!  

Festive Folktales from Far Away 
Sat 26 Nov, Sat 03 Dec & Sat 17 Dec 

Huddle in for a free festive storytelling session as Simone Schuemmelfeder from StoryGate shares some heartwarming tales about traditions from all around Europe. Supported by Creative Ireland, the storytelling sessions will take place at the City Library, Dooradoyle Library and Newcastle West Library. 

Al Freso Opera Seasonal Sessions 
7.30pm | Sat 03, Sat 10 & Sat 17 Dec  

Wrap up in your winter woollies and join Limerick Opera Festival for a free series of on-street festive operatic performances on High Street in the heart of the city centre!  

Strike a Pose! 
12pm | Sat 10 Dec 

The nationally renowned Holman Lee Agency presents Christmas Fashion on the Streets of Limerick showing the latest trends and accessories from Limerick's leading fashion houses and designers with plenty of spot prizes on the day to add to the magical Christmas spirit! 

International Christmas in Limerick   
11am-5pm | Sun 11 Dec 

Come to the Hunt Museum to celebrate Christmas traditions and non-Christmas winter traditions with our international communities in Limerick! There will be presentations from Mexico, Poland, Germany, Austria and more. Supported by Creative Ireland.   

Returning favourites include: 

  • Christmas at Limerick Milk Market – with a range of themed markets, handmade crafts and gifts, seasonal foods, local fashion and festive fun set to take place throughout December. 
  • Limerick Christmas Racing Festival – a seasonal tradition in the Irish sporting calendar! Running from Monday 26 to Thursday 29 December it is the ideal place to continue the festive celebrations in style with excellent racing action and plenty of entertainment off track! 
  • Join family and friends for an evening of festive fun at the Treaty City Brewery Night Fair – returning to Limerick's Medieval Quarter on Friday 09 and Friday 16 December. With Christmas gift ideas from local artisan producers and craft-makers, tasty treats to tempt the tastebuds and Treaty City brews on tap, it’s a sure-fire way to get everyone in the festive mood! 

Free Festive Parking: Limerick City and County Council is providing free park and stride spaces in the Council car park behind Merchant’s Quay on Saturdays and Sundays from 26 Nov - 18 Dec (9am - 10pm) and on Christmas Eve (9am - 6pm). Access is via Nicholas Street.
