New Limerick Theatre Bursaries announced

  • Theatre Bursaries

Theatre artists and practitioners living and working in Limerick are invited to apply for new Theatre Bursaries which will provide an enhanced support to the sector as a response to Covid-19. Limerick City and County Council’s Culture and Arts Office and Lime Tree Theatre/ Belltable are working in partnership to offer three theatre bursaries of up to €5000 each.

Successful applicants will receive:

  • Access to the Belltable studio space for one to two weeks, with limited additional access to the main stage, if required
  • Technical and administration support
  • A bursary of up to €5,000 to support the development of work

Limerick Culture and Arts Officer, Pippa Little said the bursaries should be of interest to local theatre practitioners who are keen to start making work again or want to explore and develop some ideas.

“It may be a case that they just need time and space to work on an idea and this scheme is perfect for that,” she said. “Bursaries are a maximum of €5,000 each. A total budget of €15,000 is available in the grant scheme and projects must begin before the end of 2020. It is open to all professional artist based in Limerick City and County Council’s administrative area or who operate substantially within Limerick city and county and are able to demonstrate this at all stages in their professional careers.”

Louise Donlon, Theatre Director, Lime Tree Theatre said: “Unfortunately due to the current pandemic, artists livelihoods have all but disappeared since March of this year. Lime Tree Theatre and Belltable are delighted to work with the Limerick Arts Office to offer three successful artists a theatre bursary worth €5000. This opportunity will allow Limerick artists the time and space to explore and develop new ideas. We look forward to welcoming them into the Belltable over the coming months.”

The closing date for application is 9am on Monday 2 November 2020.
