Limerick City and County Council Votes to Retain Local Property Tax at Current Rate

  • Limerick Council Chamber

There will be no change to the Local Property Tax (LPT) rate for Limerick homeowners in 2026. Limerick City and County Council elected representatives today voted in favour of keeping the LPT and its variation rate at 2025 levels for 2026 (15% above the base).

This decision secures funding of an additional €2.56m for Limerick City and County Council’s 2026’s budget.

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, commented:

"This decision reflects our commitment to maintaining essential services provided by Limerick City and County Council. It’s about striking the right balance between fiscal responsibility and community support. We’re proud to continue investing in the future of Limerick."

Príomh Chomhairleoir Councillor Catherine Slattery added:

"Keeping the rate steady allows us to continue investing in communities and planning for the year ahead. It ensures we can deliver improvements in areas like road safety, public spaces, and local amenities. This is a vote for stability and progress."

Director General of Limerick City and County Council, Dr Pat Daly, continued:

"The LPT remains a vital source of funding for local services that people rely on every day. From libraries to fire services, this funding helps us maintain high standards across the board. It’s a cornerstone of our annual budget planning."

Examples of some programmes funded by the LPT in 2025 included:

  • Maintenance of Local & Regional Roads
  • Street Cleaning including investment in new Plant
  • Traffic Calming measures
  • Maintenance of Parks, Pitches & Open Spaces
  • Tourism Development & Promotion
