Twilight Thursday is Launchpad for Great Days and Nights Out in Limerick This August

Twilight Thursdays is back to give a rousing send off to the month of July while heralding in another month of great days and nights out this August in Limerick.

Twilight Thursdays is the vibrant monthly initiative helping to supercharge Limerick city’s Night Time Economy with more than 60 events and activities planned for July 31st including a mix of culture, food, music, and community events.

It’s the perfect curtain-raiser for the August Bank Holiday Weekend and a month packed with headline concerts, cultural festivals, family-friendly fun, county fairs and community celebrations across the city and county.

Twilight Thursdays

On the evening of July 31st you can enjoy:

  • Late-night events across the city including live music, a silent disco, storytelling, art workshops, and film screenings. 

  • Special experiences like “Paint & Prosecco” at O’Mahony’s Booksellers, a family-friendly petting zoo at the Milk Market, and traditional Irish storytelling at The Hunt Museum. 

  • Discounts and perks such as 40% off taxis with FreeNow and Uber, and free parking at Limerick’s Potato Market Car Park (6pm – 9pm). 

  • Inclusive programming like board game nights for the neurodiverse community and family-friendly walks along the Three Bridges.

Spearheaded by Limerick City and County Council and supported by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport, Twilight Thursdays is made possible thanks to local groups and businesses embracing this innovative initiative.

August in the City

Limerick City and County Council is turning up the summer vibes with ‘August in the City’ a lively programme of events designed to energise the city and bring people together. From Arthur’s Quay to the People’s Park, public spaces will come alive with a mix of showcase events and community-led activities that celebrate creativity, connection, and the joy of being outdoors.

Residents, local groups, and businesses are invited to enjoy pop-up events, talent showcases, or simple neighbourhood gatherings. Supported by the Mayoral Fund, the goal is to make the most of Limerick’s public realm while fostering a strong sense of community spirit.

August across Limerick is Bursting with Energy

Big Ticket Events

The popular Live at the Docklands concert series returns with a stellar lineup including UB40, Kaiser Chiefs, Picture This, The Saw Doctors, Moncrieff, and Block Rockin’ Beats, drawing music fans from across the country. 

A highly anticipated event this summer is The Big Day Out on Saturday, 23rd August at the TUS Gaelic Grounds. This throwback party features a star-studded lineup from the 90s and 00s, including Basshunter, Peter Andre, Whigfield, DJ Sash!, Ultrabeat, and Heather Small of M People. Hosted by Mark McCabe, it promises a high-energy celebration.

Festivals & Family Fun

Féile na Gréine (15–17 August) returns with its unique blend of grassroots music, art, and community spirit, offering free gigs and pop-up performances in unexpected spaces. Families can also enjoy the Castletown FestivalCappamore Show, and Limerick Show, each offering a mix of local food, crafts, music, and entertainment.

Cultural Highlights

National Heritage Week (16–24 August) offers a deep dive into Limerick’s rich history with free events, guided tours, and workshops across the city and county.  Popular exhibition From ‘Dickie To Richard’ – Richard Harris: Role Of A Lifetime continues to impress at Limerick’s Hunt Museum. Meanwhile, the internationally renowned EVA International kicks off on 29th August, transforming venues across Limerick City into showcases of contemporary art.

Sport & Outdoor Activities

Sports fans can catch the Atlantic Youth Touch Cup at the University of Limerick, along with several home games for Treaty United. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy Kayaking at Lough Gur, embrace the unexpected on the Limerick Greenway, or explore vintage vehicles at the Classic Car Showcase on Honan’s Quay.

As the month of August draws to a close, Twilight Thursdays will return for an end of summer bash, bringing late-night shopping, live music, and street performances back into the city centre on 28th August.
