Limerick’s Local Coordination Group Continues to Provide Help in Aftermath of Storm Éowyn

National Humanitarian Assistance Scheme Available for Limerick Residents.

The Local Coordination Group, established by Limerick City and County Council (LCCC), is continuing to support residents affected by Storm Éowyn. The group met for the third time today to ensure that those still without water or power, or who require humanitarian assistance, can access the necessary supports.

If you or someone you know in Limerick has been affected by Storm Éowyn, don't hesitate to reach out for the help you need. 

Representatives from various agencies are actively involved in these efforts and attended the third meeting of the Local Coordination Group today, including: 

ESB, Uisce Éireann, An Garda Síochána, HSE, Department of Social Protection, Limerick Fire and Rescue Service, West Limerick Resources, Ballyhoura Development, Paul Partnership, Limerick Volunteer Centre, TFI Local Link, Community Welfare Services and Limerick Civil Defence. 

The Local Coordination Group is an additional support, continuing the actions of LCCC’s Emergency and Crisis Response teams, which were in place before, during and after the latest storm.  

Humanitarian Assistance Scheme  

Meanwhile, The Minister for Social Protection, Dara Calleary, confirmed that the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme is available to provide support to those living in properties directly affected by Storm Éowyn. 

The Humanitarian Assistance Scheme mitigates hardship by providing income tested financial assistance schemes to households affected by a severe weather event.   

The scheme may cover: 

  • emergency support payments, such as food, clothing and personal items 
  • damage to your home and its essential contents, such as carpets, flooring, furniture, household appliances and bedding 
  • structural damage 

The scheme does not cover: 

  • losses covered by an insurance policy 
  • loss of items deemed to be inessential or luxury items 
  • commercial, agricultural or business losses 
  • structural loss or damage to rented accommodation 
  • any additional properties that are not occupied and lived in as the primary residence 
  • repair or replacement of motor vehicles

Beware of Scams 

The Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications and the National Cyber Security Centre are aware of scam text messages in circulation purporting to come from ESB Networks.   

Users should exercise caution when receiving messages from unknown numbers. 

Government departments and agencies or your bank will never phone, text, email or video call you unexpectedly asking for your bank details. 

Users should not engage directly, nor share any personal information if asked, and should block and report the suspicious number if necessary. 

If you believe you are a victim of a cyber-crime, contact your local Garda station and take screenshots of texts, emails or other communications.
