Cllr Bridie Collins

I am originally from Donegal, now living in County Limerick, and I represent Adare/Rathkeale Municipal District. I was first elected to Limerick City and County Council in 2019.

Growing up on a small farm in Donegal has given me a life-sustained grounding in the importance of community and the idea of meitheal. I moved to County Limerick at the age of 20 and Adare quickly became my home.

I got involved in community work and became chair of Adare Tidy Towns a number of years ago. I realised that the lack of representation at local level was a disadvantage as it had been almost 10 years since there was a councillor in the village so I decided to stand and got elected in the 2019 local elections.

Making the decision to stand was personally difficult but my keen interest in politics and the desire to get things done led me to put aside any self-doubt and find the courage to stand.

Getting elected after my first campaign is one of my proudest achievements. The role of councillor is varied with each day bringing a new challenge and learning opportunity. I am working hard to assist communities throughout the constituency every day as I prepare for and look forward to the 2024 elections.
