What is the Cloth Nappy Incentive Scheme?
The Cloth Nappy Incentive Scheme is a pilot project to support the use of reusable nappies among families who could not otherwise have considered trying them owing to the upfront costs in buying the nappies!
As a result of collaboration between University Maternity Hospital Limerick and Limerick, Clare and Tipperary Councils, families will be provided with an opportunity to apply for a free cloth nappy starter kit containing:
- 10 high quality reusable cloth nappies
- 12 reusable cloth wipes
- a waterproof storage bag for used nappies
- absorbent inserts made from eco-friendly materials such as bamboo, cotton, and hemp
- comprehensive guidance on use and care
This pilot scheme will run for a limited time and only until the allocated vouchers have been distributed. Participation in the pilot will be subject to follow up interviews on your experiences using the nappies. The pilot is funded by the Environmental Protection Agency, (EPA), Limerick City and County Council, Clare County Council, Tipperary County Council and managed by VOICE.

Who is eligible:
- To be eligible for the scheme in Limerick you must: Be a permanent resident in Limerick City or County
- Be pregnant or have a child under the age of 12 months living with you for whom the purchased reusable nappies will be used
How do I apply?
- Applying is simple!
- Fill out the application form here
- If you meet the basic eligibility in terms of local and your baby's age, and require the financial support of the scheme to try cloth nappies
- Voice Ireland will email you with your voucher number on behalf of Limerick City and County Council
- Go to the website of your chosen retailer, select the Cloth Nappy Starter Kit* and input your voucher number at the checkout. (*Alternatively use the voucher towards other reusable nappies sold on their website)
- The retailer will then post the Cloth Nappy Starter Kit to you!

What happens after I receive my nappy starter kit?
As part of this pilot programme participants are required to take part in follow-up surveys and interviews, this is to look at the impact of the scheme!
