As the academic year kicks off, Limerick City and County Council is once again inviting students to look beyond the lecture halls and embrace the vibrant, off-campus life that makes Limerick a true student city. This year’s Limerick Student City campaign brings together student discounts and deals, monthly Twilight Thursdays events, and a strong focus on digital engagement, making it easier than ever for students to discover, connect, and belong in Limerick.
With thousands of students arriving from across Ireland and beyond, each autumn, Limerick transforms into a dynamic hub of youth, creativity, and culture. The Limerick Student City campaign—led by the Council in collaboration with local higher and further education institutions—aims to showcase the city’s best student-friendly experiences, with a strong emphasis this year on digital storytelling and social media engagement.
Limerick Student City Pocket Map and Guide
Students can explore the city using the Limerick Student City Pocket Map and Guide, available both online and in print, featuring Top Student Hotspots, What to See & Do, Bites on a Budget and useful information on transport and other services.
The campaign involves a digital push with curated content on Limerick.ie/Study and across TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, highlighting affordable events, hidden gems, and the city’s buzzing social scene.
The Limerick Student City Prospectus is also full of useful information, showcasing Limerick’s appeal as a higher education destination.
Top Student Deals
This year’s campaign has already seen a series of engagement sessions, where students voiced a clear desire for good-value experiences that make city life more accessible and enjoyable. From budget-friendly eats to free cultural events, Limerick is stepping up to meet those expectations.
Limerick City and County Council has compiled a curated list of over 50 Limerick Student City Discounts and Deals across retail, restaurants, entertainment, and travel throughout Limerick. While not exhaustive and subject to change, this list is designed to help students make the most of their time in the city without breaking the bank.
Businesses offering student deals are invited to submit their offers for inclusion by contacting marketing@limerick.ie with the subject line ‘Limerick Student City Offers’.
Twilight Thursdays
A highlight of this Limerick Student City campaign is the integration of Twilight Thursdays, a monthly celebration of Limerick’s night-time economy. Held on the last Thursday of every month, these evenings feature live music, food trails, pop-up events, cultural performances, and student-led initiatives. Throughout the academic year, Twilight Thursdays will also feature a dynamic mix of student-focused activities and entertainment, with a range of alcohol-free options—creating memorable nights out that celebrate Limerick’s vibrant student community.
Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, says the city is ready to welcome students with open arms:
“Limerick thrives on the energy and ideas that students bring. We want every student to feel not just welcome, but inspired. Whether here for a semester or a full degree, Limerick offers more than just education and this campaign is about making sure students know that Limerick is theirs to explore.”
Príomh Chomhairleoir of Limerick City and County Council, Cllr Catherine Slattery added:
“Students are a vital part of Limerick’s social and economic fabric. Their presence brings innovation, energy and diversity to our city. I’m delighted to support initiatives that make Limerick a place where students feel valued and inspired to stay beyond their studies.”
Donn O’Sullivan, Head of Marketing and Communications at Limerick City and County Council, said:
“Following last year’s successful campaign, we’ve once again met with and listened to what Limerick’s student population wants. Value for money, variety, and vibrant experiences topped their list, and Limerick continues to deliver. Through digital platforms, we’re connecting with students where they are, and showing them that the city is full of opportunities to make memories, meet people, and enjoy life beyond the lecture hall.”
