Local groups include: Resident’s Associations, Action Groups, Tidy Town Groups, Community Associations and other voluntary groups within Limerick City & County.
Limerick City and County Council also invites applications from Resident’s Associations/Resident’s Groups located within the Regeneration Areas.
This funding assistance is being provided for the project and works as outlined in application form.
In order to comply with the All Ireland Pollinator Plan and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the following are the conditions for 2026:
- These funds should not be used for the purchase of weed killer, bedding plants, skip hire, artificial flowers/plants
- Please do not place planters on grass/green areas. Native Trees and other plants should be planted directly into the ground
- The All Ireland Pollinator Plan strongly endorses natural regeneration of meadows and natural wild seed banks to grow rather than planting wildflower seed. Please note, native wildflowers grow better on poorer soils and topsoil is not required. Click here and here for more details
- Wildflower seed packs from supermarkets etc should be kept for use in private gardens
- If planting grass seeds, please ensure a higher percentage of clovers and daisies, which will benefit wildlife
- Homemade compost should be used if possible, please check if any resident in your area can supply it to the project as an alternative to moss peat. Please note, free mulch is available from the Recycle Centres in Mungret, Kilmallock and Newcastle West
- If you are planting Hydrangeas, please ensure they are a variety that attract pollinators beneficial for wild bees and pollinating insects. Click here for more information on pollinators and here for guidelines
- Please take the valuable advice from previous Tidy Town's seminars – click here
This grant should not be used for artificial grass or plants
If your grant application relates to planting – consider adding value to your grant by planting perennials and planting native trees & pollinator friendly planting schemes for wild bees and pollinating insects that would be beneficial for conservation and biodiversity.
