Limerick City and County Council is welcoming the decision by Motorsport Ireland that could see Limerick Racecourse play host to the World Rally Championships.

Limerick was one of three locations, along with Waterford and Tralee, County Kerry put forward by local motor clubs as possible venues for the global motorsport event.

Motorsport Ireland have announced that each of the proposed venues would be used on a rotation basis over three years from 2025 to 2027 – subject to Government funding being secured to bring the Championships to Ireland.

Limerick Racecourse would be the location for a 10,000 square metre service park, rally headquarters and international media centre.
