Expert advice will be provided to TidyTowns volunteers from all over Limerick at Limerick City and County Council’s annual TidyTowns seminar in the Woodlands Hotel, Adare, on Tuesday 9th February at 7pm.

The event, which is being supported by West Limerick Resources and Ballyhoura Development Association, will be opened by Cllr. Ger Mitchell, Deputy Mayor of the City and County of Limerick.

TidyTowns adjudicator Billy Flynn will make a presentation outlining the background to each of the competition categories and how TidyTowns groups can improve their overall marks.

Sinead McDonnell, Environmental Awareness Officer with Limerick City & County Council will provide attendees with information and advice on the range of supports available to TidyTowns groups.

Meanwhile, Dr. Liam Lysaght of National Biodiversity Data Centre will provide a background to the Wildlife, Habitats & Natural Amenities category of the competition, including the AllIreland Pollinator Plan, data recording and invasive species.

The presentations will be followed by a questions and answers session.

"The pool of expertise that has been amassed for this upcoming seminar will greatly assist and inform TidyTowns groups when it comes to preparing their competition application," said Cllr. Ger Mitchell.

He added, "The fact that hundreds of community volunteers assisted Limerick TidyTowns groups in the 2015 competition is testament to the City and County's proud and longstanding association with the annual initiative. The work they are undertaking on a daily basis, all year-round is making Limerick a more attractive and vibrant place to live and visit."

Limerick's participants in the 2016 national SuperValu TidyTowns competition will be hoping to emulate the 2015 successes of Adare (Gold Medal, County Winner), Ardpatrick, Newcastlewest, Kilmallock and Galbally (Bronze Medal), Abbeyfeale (Special Endeavour) and Moyross Residents Forum (Waste Prevention).
