Allaughan River Oil Spill - Update 5.10pm

Crews from Limerick City and County Council and Inland Fisheries Ireland are working on locating the source of an oil spill on the Allaughan River at Abbeyfelae.

The local authority was alerted to reports of oil in the water at lunchtime today. Oil, believed to be central heating oil, is flowing primarily along the southbank of the river, close to its confluence with the River Feale.

The Allaughan River is quite fast moving at present. Options to deal with the spill are being assessed. Booms are being deployed near the bridge in Abbeyfeale.

Limerick City and County Council is working with Inland Fisheries Ireland to manage the incident. Irish Water has also been notified. Further updates will be given as information is received.
