Limerick City and County Council is committed to promoting positive action on waste management.


Household Waste Collection

A segregated waste collection is provided by regulated private waste collection contractors. A 3 bin waste collection service must be provided to householders in all areas.

  1. Brown bin for organic waste
  2. Dry recyclable bin
  3. Landfill bin/general waste bin

Green Waste

Glass bottles and jars should be put in a separate waste container if provided by collectors, or brought to a local bring centre/bank. Find a list of Limerick bottle banks here.

Household Construction and Demolition Waste

Bulky Waste

Bulky waste includes mattresses, beds, and attic or shed clear-outs. 

How to dispose of bulky waste:

When using permitted waste collectors:

  • Ensure that the waste collector has a permit for the type of waste they are collecting. Visit the National Waste Collection Permit Office website for a full list of waste collection service providers and what they are permitted to collect.
  • Ask to see your waste collectors waste collection permit and if you have any queries, please contact the Commercial Waste Team of Limerick City and County Council at customerservices@limerick.ie for clarification.
  • Note the time and date of the collection and the licence number of the vehicle.
  • Always, always get a receipt.

Please Note: It is a crime to hire an illegal (unpermitted) waste collector or skip operator, and to do so could lead to prosecution.

Household Hazardous Waste

Try to avoid using household hazardous waste by using more environmentally friendly methods. When this is not possible, purchase the products in minimal sizes and use 
sparingly.
