Limerick City and County Council and JF Flynn Construction Ltd. have signed contracts for the delivery of four new social housing units at Radharc an Ghleanna, Mountcollins, Co. Limerick.

The project, valued at €1,299,891.20 excluding VAT, marks a positive step forward in addressing housing need in the Mountcollins area and supporting the delivery of new homes in rural communities across Limerick.

The development will consist of two 2-bedroom dwellings and two 3-bedroom dwellings. Once complete, the scheme will provide high-quality, secure and sustainable accommodation for families and individuals with an identified housing need.

The project forms part of Limerick City and County Council’s Social Housing Delivery Programme and is funded under the Social Housing Investment Programme (SHIP). Departmental Stage 4 approval has been secured, with JF Flynn Construction Ltd. appointed as Contractor and Project Supervisor Construction Stage for the works.

The construction of the new social housing units is expected to commence shortly, with completion anticipated in Q4 2027.

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran welcomed the new development:

“Providing more social homes for people and families all the way across Limerick remains one of our key priorities. Yesterday, for example, I signed the Part 8 planning application to ask councillors approval to convert the former Garda station in Shanagolden into three new homes. Today we sign this contract which is welcome news for Mountcollins. These high-quality homes will make a real difference to the lives of their future residents and demonstrate our ongoing commitment to providing sustainable housing solutions in rural areas. I look forward to seeing this development progress and to welcoming the new residents to Mountcollins in the years ahead.”

Príomh Chomhairleoir, Cllr. Tom Ruddle added:

“I am delighted to see this investment being made in Mountcollins and wish the project team every success as construction gets underway. Limerick City and County Council is committed to increasing housing supply and ensuring that home ownership is within reach for more people.”

Director of Housing at Limerick City and County Council, Vincent Murray says:

“The signing of this contract is more than a construction milestone; it is a clear statement of Limerick City and County Council’s commitment to delivering homes where they are needed, strengthening rural communities, and ensuring that families and individuals have access to secure, high-quality and sustainable accommodation. This scheme in Mountcollins reflects the careful planning, collaboration and determination required to turn housing need into housing delivery, and we look forward to seeing these four new homes progress from contract signing to completion for the benefit of the local community.”
