Summer in the City returns for its fourth weekend with a series of free events including swing dancing, walking tours, live performances and community arts activities, encouraging people to explore and enjoy Limerick's reimagined public spaces.
Funded through the 2026 Mayoral Fund, the initiative has been developed in consultation with local businesses and stakeholders to encourage more people to visit the city centre, spend longer there and explore.
Fun for All
The events offer another packed weekend of entertainment for everyone. On Friday, step back in time and learn about the rich history of The Crescent, O'Connell Avenue on a guided walking tour of the historical area, led by local historians, Paul O’Brien and Randal Hodkinson.
While, on Saturday you can enjoy the best of Limerick’s art and musical scene with Art in Motion, a Limerick Musical Society performance and Sing Street at The Crescent. Get your dancing shoes ready on Sunday and experience the energy and excitement of Irish Set Dancing with Sets in The City.
Meanwhile, Steamboat Quay’s Urban Beach continues to be a major attraction, creating a vibrant riverside setting for people to gather, relax and soak up the summer spirit.
Reimagined Public Spaces
- The Crescent on O'Connell Avenue has been transformed with seating and greening into Daniel's Garden Lounge - a nod to “The Liberator” Daniel O'Connell - creating a welcoming space for people to gather, have a picnic, an outdoor meeting or just watch the world go by, surrounded by beautiful Georgian architecture in this historic part of the city.
- Lower Glentworth Street has undergone a similar transformation and, under the moniker The Glentworth Social, is creating another attractive city centre space to kick back and relax.
- Nicholas Street in Limerick’s Medieval Quarter has also been coming alive each weekend in August with Treaty City Brewery’s One Fomhar D’road Festival bringing live music, street theatre and community-focused events helping to animate the historic quarter.
- Additionally, Back Lane, has been transformed into The Hop Garden, a pedestrianised cultural and social space, with Mother Mac's providing activations.
