Notice is hereby given, in accordance with the provisions of the Roads Act 1993 of the intention of Limerick City and County Council to close the road as detailed hereunder at the specified locations and times to facilitate South West Road Race Athea 2026.

R523 from the junction of L7071 and R523 at Benmore to Athea Village. | Travelling from Glin to Athea: Vehicles travelling southbound on the R524 should divert right at Blaine cross onto the L1238 and follow the L1238 to the Junction of L1238 and L1021 at Moyvane South turn left onto the L1021 and continue south down to the junction of L1021 and R523 at Gortaglanna.
Travalling from Athea to Glin: Vehicles travelling north should use the R523 to listowel to the Junction of R523 and L1021 at Gortaglanna turn right onto the L1021, travel north to the junction of L1021 and L1238 at Moyvane South turn right onto L1238 and continue along this road to the junction of L1238 and R524 at Blaine cross.
Travelling from Abbeyfeale to Athea: Vehicles should use the R555 to Listowel and from Listowel use the R523 towards Athea.
Travelling from Athea to Abbeyfeale: Vehicles should use the R523 to Listowel and from listowel use the R555 to Abbeyfeale.
Travelling from Abbeyfeale to Glin: Vehicles should use the R555 to Listowel and from Listowel use the R523 towards Athea diverting left onto the L1021 at Gortaglanna towards the junction of the L1021 and L1238 at Moyvane South turn right onto the L1238 and follow the L1238 to the junction with R524 at Blaine cross.
Travelling from Glin to Abbeyfeale: Heading south Vehicles should turn off the R524 at Blaine cross onto the L1238 and continue onto the junction of the L1238 and L1021 at Moyvane South turn left onto the L1021 and head south to the junction of the L1021 and R523 turn right onto the R523 and continue onto Listowel use the R555 from Listowel to Abbeyfeale.
Travelling from Glin to Listowel: Vehicles travelling southbound on the R524 should divert right at Blaine cross onto the L1238 and follow the L1238 to the Junction of L1238 and L1021 at Moyvane South turn left onto the L1021 and continue south down to the junction of L1021 and R523 at Gortaglanna turn right onto the R523 to Listowel.
Travelling from Listowel to Glin: Vehicles should use the R523 towards Athea to the Junction of R523 and L1021 at Gortaglanna turn right onto the L1021, travel north to the junction of L1021 and L1238 at Moyvane South turn right onto L1238 and continue along this road to the junction of L1238 and R524 at Blaine cross.
Travelling from Ardagh to Listowel: Vehicles should use the R521 to Newcastle West, the N21 to Abbeyfeale and the R555 to Listowel.
Travelling from Listowel to Ardagh: Vehicles should use the R555 to Abbeyfeale, te N21 to Newcastle West and the R521 to Ardagh.
From Newcastle West to Listowel: Vehicles should use the N21 to Abbeyfeale and the R555 to Listowel.
From Listowel to Newcastle West: Vehicles should use the R555 to Abbeyfeale and the N21 to Newcastle West. | From 6:00 am on Saturday 12th September 2026 to 11:00pm on Sunday 13th September 2026. |

- Local access will be accommodated
Any person may lodge an objection to the proposal to close these roads by email to roads@limerick.ie or in writing to the Administration Team, Central Services, Roads, Limerick City and County Council, Dooradoyle, Limerick not later than 4:00pm, Tuesday 18th of August 2026.
