Supported by the Limerick Sports Partnership, Limerick City and County Council are leading the preparation of a Local Sports Plan for Limerick. The aim of this plan is to increase participation in sport and physical activity across the City and County. This aligns with the Government’s National Sports Policy 2018–2027 and is supported by Sport Ireland under Action 8 of the policy.
We are now seeking submissions and observations on the draft Local Sports Plan which has been developed through a consultative process involving the community and all relevant stakeholders.
The draft Local Sports Plan 2026-2030 is on public display during normal office hours from Thursday 23rd July 2026 to Wednesday 2nd September 2026 inclusive, at the following locations:

The draft Plan is accompanied by:
- A Screening for Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Report and associated Screening for SEA determination undertaken in compliance with the European SEA Directive (2001/42/EC) and transposing European Communities (Environmental Assessment of Certain Plans and Programmes) Regulations 2004 (SI No. 435 of 2004), as amended; and
- A Screening for Appropriate Assessment (AA) Report and associated Screening for AA determination undertaken in compliance with the European Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC), as amended, and the European Communities (Birds and Natural Habitats) Regulations 2011 (SI No. 477 of 2011), as amended.
