Limerick City and County Council has secured €20,000 in funding from The Heritage Council to support a range of biodiversity initiatives across the county in 2026.
The funding was successfully secured by the Council's Biodiversity Officer and will support the following projects:
- Continued support for the Limerick Biodiversity Forum
- Ongoing monitoring and support of the Faith Communities Return to Nature Project, including a workshop during National Heritage Week
- Continued participation in the National Woodland Bat Monitoring Programme
- Progression of Phase II of the Ground Truthing of Circuitscape Mapping for Lesser Horseshoe Bats in the Newcastle West area
- Two public events at Griston Bog - a Moth Workshop in May and a Bat Walk in August
- The total value of these projects is €25,020, with The Heritage Council contributing €20,000 and Limerick City and County Council providing €5,020 in matched funding.
These initiatives will support biodiversity conservation, community engagement, and ecological monitoring across County Limerick, while helping to deliver the objectives of the Limerick Biodiversity Action Plan 2025-2030 and increasing awareness and appreciation of the county's rich natural heritage.
