Limerick Student City Campaign Shortlisted for National Education Award

Limerick City and County Council is welcoming the recognition of its Limerick Student City initiative as a finalist in the Education Awards 2026, in the Student Engagement and Communications category.

The Education Awards celebrate the most innovative individuals and companies driving excellence in Ireland's education sector.

The shortlisting acknowledges the success of the Limerick Student City initiative, led by the Council’s Marketing and Communications team, in encouraging students not only to study in Limerick, but to fully experience and engage with life across the city and county.

Working closely with Limerick’s key education partners - including University of Limerick (UL), Mary Immaculate College (MIC), Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) and Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board - the Marketing and Communications team at Limerick City and County Council promotes a unified vision of Limerick as a place where student life extends far beyond the campus.

Limerick Student City invites students to step outside their academic environments and immerse themselves in everything Limerick has to offer, from cultural events and festivals to community initiatives, social spaces, and the county’s rich natural amenities. The initiative which includes several annual campaigns, encourages students to become active participants in the life of the city, to build connections, and to make Limerick their home during their studies and beyond.

Through a strategic mix of digital engagement, on-the-ground activations and targeted communications, Limerick Student City highlights Limerick’s unique strengths - from its modern educational facilities and innovative ecosystem to its rich cultural life and access to green spaces. The initiative also reflects the evolving expectations of today’s student population, supporting wellbeing, inclusion and community connection.

Donn O’Sullivan, Head of Marketing and Communications at Limerick City and County Council, said:

“We are delighted to see Limerick Student City recognised at a national level through the Education Awards. This nomination reflects the strength of collaboration across Limerick’s education sector and our shared commitment to enhancing the student experience. We will continue to evolve the campaign in partnership with our stakeholders to meet the changing needs of students and to showcase Limerick as a city of opportunity, innovation and belonging.”

Limerick City and County Council will continue to work closely with its partners to further develop the Limerick Student City initiative, ensuring it remains responsive, relevant and impactful in a competitive global education landscape.

The Education Awards 2026 will take place in April.
