Limerick City and County Council warmly welcomes today’s announcement of a significant multi-million euro agreement between BiggerStage, Troy Studios, and The MBS Group, which will establish a major new global unscripted production hub at Troy Studios in Limerick.

This partnership represents one of the most substantial investments in Ireland’s screen production sector in recent years, further solidifying Limerick’s position as a national leader in creative industries.

Troy Studios - already recognised as Ireland’s largest and most modern studio facility, spanning 26 acres with four world-class sound stages - continues to grow its impact on the region. The new deal will see BiggerStage and Troy Studios collaborate over multiple years to attract major international television formats to Limerick, while also supporting skills development, training initiatives, and the creation of original intellectual property. Pilot projects for major international partners are expected to commence in 2026, adding to the studio’s expanding slate of production activity.

Limerick City and County Council has long recognised Troy Studios as a transformational asset for the city and region. Since its establishment, the studio has played a central role in strengthening Limerick’s creative economy, generating employment, and attracting global productions that showcase local talent and infrastructure.

The Council’s ongoing support of the screen sector is also reflected in our investment in Film in Limerick, delivered through Innovate Limerick DAC. Film Limerick works year-round to grow the region’s film ecosystem by supporting productions, fostering talent, and promoting Limerick as a destination for high-quality screen content. The announcement today directly aligns with the mission and impact of these initiatives, ensuring that local creatives and industry partners benefit from major international opportunities coming to our region.

The creation of a global unscripted production hub at Troy Studios underscores Limerick’s growing status as a centre of excellence for screen production. Ireland’s new unscripted tax credit - Europe’s first of its kind - further positions the region to attract international partners and fuel future growth in documentary, entertainment, and reality content.

Mayor of Limerick John Moran is welcoming the announcement, saying:

Today’s announcement marks a major step forward for Limerick’s creative industries. The scale and ambition of this new partnership reflect the confidence global players have in our region - in our talent, our infrastructure, and our vision for the future.”

Príomh Chomhairleoir Catherine Slattery says the new investment will positively impact the community:

"This partnership is a real boost for Limerick. Our film industry has grown at a pace few would have imagined just a few short years ago, since Troy Studios first opened its doors. I’ve seen first-hand how the opportunities it has created have made a genuine difference to people’s lives, creating skilled jobs, new career paths and real hope in our communities. This expansion will build on that progress and ensure the benefits are felt right across the city and county for years to come."

Director General, Dr. Pat Daly, is wishing success to all involved and said:

“This announcement reflects the strong and sustained commitment of Limerick City and County Council to the growth of our film and creative industries. Through our ongoing investment in Film Limerick and our support for Troy Studios since its inception, we have worked to create the conditions that attract world‑class partners and long‑term industry development. I look forward to watching this new partnership deliver even more for this industry in Limerick and the mid-west.”

Paul C Ryan, Regional Film Manager at Innovate Limerick / Film in Limerick on the investment:

“We are delighted to see BiggerStage expanding production in Limerick, following the successful filming of 'Don't Forget the Lyrics' at the studios last year. The screen sector in the Mid-West is going from strength to strength, following several high-profile scripted TV series and feature films shot in the region in recent years - and now the development of a major unscripted production hub in the city. Thanks to the introduction of the new unscripted tax credit and the support of Screen Ireland, Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board and the local council's film friendly approach, we are seeing real progress in developing the sector and creating local jobs."

Since 2021, BiggerStage has delivered over 250 hours of primetime international programming produced in Ireland, including major network shows such as The Floor, Next Level Chef, Beat Shazam, Name That Tune, and Don’t Forget the Lyrics. This track record demonstrates the strength of the Irish screen sector and the immense potential for further expansion in Limerick.

Film in Limerick is working closely with BiggerStage to develop unscripted production training initiatives for both experienced and new talent looking to work on upcoming shows. There is currently a call out for crew interested in working across a wide range of on-set roles. An upcoming Industry day is also planned for locally based crew to meet with BiggerStage representatives.
