Call for Expressions of Interest: Community Representatives for the Limerick Local Community Safety Partnership

  • Limerick City and County Council LCCC Community Safety Wardens

Limerick City and County Council invites Expressions of Interest from community representatives who wish to be considered for membership of the Limerick Local Community Safety Partnership (LCSP).

The LCSP aims to ensure that community safety is shaped by those who know their communities best. This Expression of Interest process will help identify representatives who reflect the diversity, lived experience, and strengths of communities across Limerick.

An assessment committee will review all applications and identify suitable candidates. The LCSP model is based on the principle that every community is different, and membership should reflect a wide range of voices across sectors, demographics, and community interests.

Community Representation Sought

Applications are welcome from individuals who can represent:

  • Resident Representatives
  • Youth Representatives
  • Minority and New Communities Representatives
  • Social Inclusion Representatives from the Community and Voluntary Sector
  • Education Representatives
  • Business Representatives

Applicants should live or work within County Limerick and be able to represent the six electoral areas, wider communities, and LCSP priority groups. The goal is to create a balanced and representative partnership. Nominations from diverse backgrounds and experiences are strongly encouraged.

Each applicant will be asked to explain why they wish to serve on the LCSP and outline the contribution they hope to make to community safety in Limerick.

About the Local Community Safety Partnership

The Local Community Safety Partnership is a new national model established under the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024. The regulations establishing LCSPs came into operation on 30 June 2025, and partnerships were automatically created in every local authority area, including Limerick.

The LCSP represents a shift from traditional policing forums to a more collaborative, preventative, and inclusive approach. It brings together residents, community groups, local authorities, An Garda Siochana, the HSE, Tusla, and other public services. Its purpose is to develop a Community Safety Plan that reflects local needs, builds trust, and ensures coordinated action across agencies.

Limerick’s LCSP will consist of up to 30 positions. Members compromise of public services, elected representatives, and community representatives approved by the Minister for Justice. The Partnership must hold at least six meetings each year, including one public meeting, and may establish committees to address topics such as youth diversion, mental health, or domestic violence.

This model ensures that community voices are heard directly and that social, economic, environmental, and policing factors influencing safety are addressed in a coordinated and community informed way.
