Transport and Mobility Forum Limerick Meets for the First Time to Drive Sustainable Travel

  • Limerick TMF

Active Travel Limerick today facilitated the inaugural meeting of the Limerick Transport and Mobility Forum (TMF), marking a significant step toward collaborating on sustainable transport and active travel in the region. The event, organised with support from the Cork TMF, brought together a diverse group of stakeholders committed to improving mobility options across Limerick.

The session opened with introductions and a discussion on the forum’s purpose: to create a platform for sharing ideas, promoting cooperation and driving positive change in transport. Attendees heard insights from Cork TMF’s success story, presented by Darren McAdam O’Connell, who highlighted the benefits of a strong peer network. Pierre Venter Maher talked about the advantages of TMF membership, and Toby Goodwin provided an overview of Limerick’s current sustainable transport and active travel plans.

Representatives from Bus Éireann, Local Link, TFI Bikes, Cork TMF, Limerick Gardaí, Green Schools, Munster Rugby, Cycling Campaign, Pedestrian Network, PPN, Limerick City and County Council teams (Active Travel and Transport Strategy), disability advocacy groups, the Chamber of Commerce, and Limerick Sports Partnership were among those present. Together, participants discussed shared goals and opportunities to collaborate on projects that make walking, cycling, and public transport safer and more accessible.

The Cork TMF team emphasised the forum’s role as a peer support network, encouraging members to share ongoing campaigns and initiatives. The meeting concluded with a discussion on next steps, including actions and considerations for committee structures.

The key message from the day was clear: Collaboration is key. Sharing information leads to better-informed stakeholders and better decisions.

Next Steps: The next meeting of the Limerick TMF will take place in January 2026. Stakeholders and organisations interested in joining the conversation or learning more can contact activetravel@limerick.ie.
