Limerick City and County Council Confirms Planning Permission for Train Station in Moyross

Limerick City and County Council (LCCC), as planning authority, is delighted to confirm that a decision has been made to grant planning permission for a train station in Moyross.

The granting of planning permission for this crucial piece of infrastructure allows for the progression to the next stages of the project, which include detailed design, procurement, and further stakeholder engagement.

The new station is to be located at the rear of Corpus Christi Primary School and Moyross Community Enterprise Centre. This represents a transformative investment in sustainable transport and urban regeneration, linking the Northside of Limerick to key educational, civic, and employment hubs while supporting national goals for compact and connected growth.

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, commented:

“This project is a cornerstone of the More for Limerick Mayoral Programme and I am thrilled to see it granted planning permission. A modern and accessible train station will connect Moyross and surrounding areas like Caherdavin, Thomondgate, and the wider Northside, more directly with greater Limerick, other major cities, and, hopefully soon, Shannon Airport. It will unlock access to education, employment and social opportunities, all while benefitting business too. Moyross’ story continues to be written and I look forward to a new chapter being delivered.”

Príomh Chomhairleoir, Limerick City and County Council, Cllr Catherine Slattery, added:

“This is a proud day for Moyross. Securing planning permission for the train station is a major milestone in our journey towards greater inclusion and opportunity across Limerick. For decades, this community has called for better connectivity and we are now one step closer to delivering it. I want to thank everyone who has worked tirelessly to make this happen. Moyross deserves this investment, and I look forward to seeing the positive change it brings.”

Director General, Limerick City and County Council, Dr Pat Daly, concluded:

“The approval of planning permission for the Moyross train station is a landmark achievement for Limerick and a powerful statement of intent for balanced regional development. This project is a cornerstone of our commitment to inclusive growth, ensuring that all communities are connected to opportunity. We are proud to support this transformative initiative and will keep working with all stakeholders to continue to deliver a transport network that reflects the ambition and potential of our city and county.”

Limerick City and County Council looks forward to continued engagement with Irish Rail, who are leading this project.
