The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick has thanked the hundreds of workers who have helped to clean up the city and county in the wake of Storm Ophelia.
Cllr Stephen Keary said: “Everyone was on high alert on Monday when Storm Ophelia tracked across the country. Luckily people in Limerick heeded the warnings and there was no loss of life. While buildings and homes may have been damaged, it was heartening to hear that nobody from Limerick lost their lives. My sympathies do go to the families of the three victims of Storm Ophelia in Tipperary, Waterford and Louth.”
“I know there was a lot of damage caused, especially with trees down, and there are still pockets of Limerick where people are without electricity.”
“I would like to commend all the staff of Limerick City and County Council who were involved in the massive clean-up operation which began on Monday evening and is still continuing.”
“There are parts of Limerick still without power and I know the ESB is working hard, sometimes in very dangerous conditions to reconnect everyone. I would urge those without power to check in on your elderly or vulnerable neighbours, to make sure they are OK.”
“And again I would urge those who encounter fallen trees, to report them at once but don’t approach them as they may be entangled with electricity cables.”
“Limerick City and County Council can be contacted on 061 556000.”
