Limerick Elections Count 2024: Stay Informed with Limerick City and County Council Online

The people of Limerick will decide the composition of Limerick’s next Council when they cast their votes in the Local Elections and the historic first election by the electorate of a Mayor of Limerick this Friday June 7th.

The opening of the ballot boxes takes place on Saturday morning at the Limerick Count Centre, located at Limerick Racecourse. Limerick City and County Council will be keeping you informed of the runners and riders with timely updates. 

A total of 90 candidates are vying for 40 council seats, while 15 contenders are seeking to step into the newly created position of Mayor of Limerick, a role that will shape Limerick’s future for the next five years. The result of every count will be posted on Limerick.ie/count as soon as they are announced by the Returning Officer.

There are six Local Electoral Areas within Limerick City and County Council, returning a total of 40 councillors. 

  • Limerick City East - 7 seats (16 Candidates) 

  • Limerick City North - 7 seats ((19 Candidates) 

  • Limerick City West - 7 seats (18 Candidates) 

  • Adare - Rathkeale - 6 seats (11 Candidates) 

  • Cappamore - Kilmallock - 7 seats (14 Candidates) 

  • Newcastle West - 6 seats (12 Candidates)

Freephone Number

A Freephone number (1800 83 20 73) is now available for members of the public, particularly visually impaired voters, to familiarise themselves with the candidates running in the Limerick Local Elections 2024 and in the Limerick Mayoral Election 2024.

This Freephone number works in conjunction with a Local Elections Ballot Paper Template and a Limerick Mayoral Election Ballot Paper Template that will be available at all Polling Stations on polling day.

The message on the freephone number sets out the names of the candidates in each Local Electoral Area in the order in which they appear on the ballot paper, and the names of the candidates running in the Limerick Mayoral Election, in the order in which they appear on the ballot paper.

The Freephone number 1800 83 20 73 will be available up to close of polls, i.e. 10pm on Friday 7th June 2024.
