Limerick City and County Council invites applications for €1.4M Community Recognition Fund 2024

Ballybrown GAA & Camogie Club availed of Community Recognition Funding in 2023 for a new Ball-Wall Astro Turf playing facility.

Limerick City and County Council are inviting applications for the Community Recognition Fund 2024. The fund supports communities that have welcomed people from Ukraine and other countries.

€1,400,378 has been allocated to Limerick by the Department of Rural and Community Development (DRCD). A total of €50 million has been allocated nationally. 

The broad aim of the fund is to develop or improve facilities that will benefit the broader community into the future.

Eligible Areas:

The scheme details set out that only areas which have high levels of new arrivals will be deemed eligible for this scheme. In Limerick those areas include:  

  • Abbeyfeale 
  • Ardagh 
  • Askeaton 
  • Bruff 
  • Cappamore 
  • Castleconnell 
  • Clarina/Ballybrown 
  • Foynes 
  • Glin 
  • Hospital
  • Kildimo 
  • Kilfinnane 
  • Kilmallock 
  • Limerick City and Urban Suburbs 
  • Newcastle West 
  • Shanagolden 

Additional towns and villages may be considered for inclusion at a later stage should numbers and locations change during 2024. Projects situated in areas that do not have high levels of new arrivals will not be deemed eligible. 

Announcing the funding, Minister for Rural and Community Development, Minister Heather Humphreys said: 

“I am very pleased to be in a position to announce an additional €50 million in funding under the Community Recognition Fund. This allocation will double the funding provided by my Department to €100 Million in supporting communities across the country who have responded to the humanitarian crisis in welcoming people from Ukraine and other countries.”

Limerick City and County Council will be holding a number of information days in the coming weeks to assist communities with their applications.

  • Corporate Headquarters, Limerick City and County Council, Merchants Quay - 10:30hrs–12:30 hrs 

  • Limerick City and County Council, Dooradoyle - 14:00hrs-16:00 hrs
