Limerick City and County Council is delighted to announce the return of Light Up Limerick and a Christmas lights switch on ceremony, taking place on Saturday, 21 November to mark the official opening of Christmas in Limerick 2026 festivities.

The city centre will come alive from 7pm with a festive Christmas procession produced by LUXE, departing from Brown Thomas and travelling along O'Connell Street. Featuring illuminated characters, live music, street performances and seasonal entertainment, the procession will lead crowds towards a spectacular finale at the top of O'Connell Street.

A specially constructed stage will host live entertainment, festive performances and special guest appearances before the highlight of the evening, the official Light Up Limerick Switch-On Ceremony, when the city's Christmas lights are illuminated to mark the start of the festive season.

The celebrations will conclude with a musical finale and dazzling pyrotechnic display.

Spectators are encouraged to arrive between 6.30pm and 7pm and gather along O'Connell Street, from Brown Thomas to Lower Glentworth Street, to enjoy the best views of the procession as it travels through the city centre.

Light Up Limerick is a FREE event and no booking is required.
