Draft Limerick City Centre Transport Plan

In accordance with Article 13(1)(b) of the European Communities (Environmental Assessment of Certain Plans and Programmes) Regulations 2004, as amended, notice is hereby given that Limerick City and County Council has prepared:

  • A Draft Limerick City Centre Transport Plan, which identifies and prioritises changes to the current transport arrangements which are necessary to fulfil the vision for the City, as set out in the Limerick Development Plan and the Mayoral Programme, More for Limerick, and to support the implementation of the Limerick Shannon Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy.

 

  • An associated Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Environmental Report (including Non-Technical Summary) of the likely significant effects on the environment of implementing the Plan, in accordance with Directive 2001/42/EC of the European Parliament and Council of 27 June 2001 on the assessment of the effects of certain plans and programmes on the environment, as transposed into Irish law by the European Communities (Environmental Assessment of Certain Plans and Programmes) Regulations 2004 (as amended); and

     

  • An associated Screening for Appropriate Assessment (AA) Report, pursuant to Article 6 of Council Directive 92/43/EEC of 21 May 1992 on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora, as transposed into Irish law by the European Communities (Birds and Natural Habitats) Regulations 2011 (as amended).

Public Consultation

A copy of the Draft Limerick City Centre Transport Plan, associated SEA Environmental Report and Screening for AA Report, will be available for public inspection from 23/07/2026 to 12/10/2026 at the following locations:

  • Online at www.limerick.ie
  • Online consultation portal at https://mypoint.limerick.ie
  • Limerick City and County Council, Merchants Quay, Limerick, during normal office hours.
  • Limerick City and County Council, Dooradoyle Road, Dooradoyle, Limerick during normal office hours.
  • Libraries – Barrow House, Dooradoyle Library, Watch House Cross Library. 

How To Make a Submission:

Written submissions or observations with respect to the Draft Limerick City Centre Transport Plan and/or associated SEA Environmental Report and/or associated Screening for AA Report can be made up to 5 p.m. on 12/10/2026 by one of the following methods:

  • Submissions or observations should include your name and address and, where relevant, details of any organisation, community group or company represented.
  • Please make your submission by one medium only, i.e. online, email or hard copy.
  • Please include the heading "Draft Limerick City Centre Transport Plan" on all submissions.
  • All submissions and observations received may be published on the Council's website and may be subject to the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2014.

Public Information Sessions:

Council staff will be available at two scheduled drop-in sessions to discuss the Draft Limerick City Centre Transport Plan and answer queries. Details will be available at www.limerick.ie
