Limerick City and County Council Unveils New LK Picture Frame on Clancy Strand

  • New LK Frame Unveiled

Limerick City and County Council is delighted to unveil the LK Frame - a striking new public artwork offering a unique and engaging photo opportunity on the banks of the River Shannon in the heart of Limerick City.

Inspired by the ‘Limerick Icon’, the sculptural picture frame located at Clancy Strand, has been constructed by P&D Lydon Ltd and captures both the city’s name and one of its most iconic views towards King John's Castle. Visitors can also frame vistas of Thomond Bridge and the River Shannon, creating memorable images that celebrate Limerick’s rich heritage and scenic urban landscape.

Top Spot for the Perfect Pic

As one of Ireland’s oldest cities, Limerick City continues to grow in prominence as a vibrant and attractive tourism destination. Blending medieval history with a thriving cultural, food and events scene, the city offers a compelling experience for domestic and international visitors alike. The addition of the LK Frame further enhances the visitor journey, providing an interactive landmark that encourages exploration, dwell time and social sharing.

Ryder Cup in the Frame

The installation also reflects the growing momentum across Limerick as it prepares to host the 2027 Ryder Cup. Taking place at nearby Adare Manor in September 2027, the Ryder Cup represents a landmark opportunity to showcase Limerick and the wider region to a global audience. In anticipation, a series of animations and visual activations - including themed signage, installations and landmark features - are helping to build excitement and civic pride in the lead-up to the event.

Temporary Ryder Cup branding has been incorporated into the LK Frame to mark this journey, with the flexibility for these graphics to evolve over time as the city hosts additional events and celebrations. This ensures the structure remains a dynamic and relevant feature within Limerick’s public realm.

Wayfinding

The LK Frame has been delivered by Limerick City and County Council as an extension of the city’s recently completed family of wayfinding signage, forming part of a broader visual identity that positions Limerick as a welcoming and easy-to-navigate destination. This cohesive approach to signage and public realm design is already visible across the city, with new directional signage, branded installations and streetscape enhancements contributing to a more engaging urban experience.
