Limerick is the ideal destination for families with tons of fun attractions and museums, beautiful countryside, adventure centres and stunning outdoor spaces to explore on walks or bike rides.

Fascinating, memorable and entertaining, Limerick has plenty to keep children (and adults) entertained! Here's some firm family favourites.

1. Check out the Amazing Animals at Stonehall Visitor Farm

Llamas, ostriches, meerkats, parrots, chipmunks and Speedy the leopard tortoise are waiting to greet you at Stonehall Wildlife Park!

2. Be Captivated by our Aviation History at Foynes Flying Boat and Maritime Museum

Climb on board a B314 flying boat replica and enjoy a realistic flight simulator. The museum excitingly captures the story of how the quaint village became one of the great aviation hubs of the world since the first transatlantic flights in 1937. While in Foynes, be sure to scan the waters for bottle-nosed dolphins!

3. Kids Will Love the Courtyard Fun and Games at King John’s Castle

A visit to King John’s Castle is a must for families. While away a couple of hours as you travel back through time and re-live medieval times in the city’s 800 year old fortress. Children will love the dazzling array of computer generated animations and ghostly projections and the education and activity room is bustling with tasks to stimulate curious minds.

4. Embark on an Adventure at Basecamp Action and Adventure Park

Basecamp offers incredible, action-packed adventure experiences in Shanagolden, Co. Limerick. Try your hand at everything from forest 3D archery to paintball and splatball. A Bushcraft experience invites you to ‘get back to your roots’ and learn some ancient skills such as water purification and how to build a shelter…while the centre’s Survival course is based on real special forces training – helping your channel your inner Bear Grylls.

5. Explore the City from a Different Perspective – go Kayaking on the Shannon!

Enjoy some family fun on the water on a kayak tour along the majestic River Shannon. Limerick City Kayaking Tours offer fun, safe kayaking trips on the River Shannon and are suitable for anyone over 6 years of age. Best of all, no previous kayaking experience is needed.

6. Take a Family Day Trip to Mystical Lough Gur

One of Ireland’s most important archaeological sites, Lough Gur is a stunning spot to visit on a sunny summer's day with a scenic lake setting and interactive visitor's centre. Take a seat on the throne of Fer Fí, King of the Fairies and look out for the Fairy Queen’s castle where the fairies are reputed to live.

7. Go Dinosaur Crazy with Mini Golf at Jurassic Parrr

Dinosaur enthusiasts will love Jurassic Parrr Mini Golf, Ireland’s first UV crazy golf course. Meet apex predators like the Tyrannosaurus Rex and gentle giants like the Mighty Stegosaurus as you navigate your way across 18 glow in the dark holes.

8. Get on your Bikes at Limerick Greenway!

Carving a 40km path through the local countryside, the Limerick Greenway offers an authentic experience of rural Ireland and is a perfect family day out. Explore the countryside by bike or on foot on the safely enclosed Greenway pathways. Whichever stage of the Greenway you choose, you can expect a warm welcome from the locals and plenty of fun activities for children and adults alike.

9. Enter a Land of Animal Adventures at Wild Encounters

While away the afternoon at Wild Encounters, home to lots of birds, reptiles, bugs and more! Keep an eye out for Seamus the skunk, Barney the owl and the giddy goats Leonardo Dicaprigoat and Jean Paul Goatier!

10. Let the Kids Loose at Curraghchase

Curraghchase Forest Park, a short 20 minute drive from Limerick City is the perfect picnic spot and ideal location for little explorers with 300 hectares of rolling parkland, walking trails, woodlands, lakes, a magical fairy trail and playgrounds just waiting to be enjoyed.
