Foynes Flying Boat & Maritime Museum

Travel back to the 1930s and ’40s, when Foynes played a pivotal role in establishing commercial transatlantic passenger flights. The story of the role played by Foynes in the establishment of passenger flights across the Atlantic is excitingly captured in the Museum.

The famous flying boats were frequent visitors, carrying a diverse range of people from celebrities to refugees. The award winning Flying Boat Museum recalls this era with a comprehensive range of exhibitions and memorabilia. The Maritime Museum portrays the history and personality of the River Shannon from Limerick City to Loop Head. The River Shannon is a huge feature in the history and mythology of Ireland and this new museum features some of that history.

We are located on the Wild Atlantic Way (N69 Route) along the banks of the beautiful Shannon Estuary in the lovely village of Foynes, the home of Irish Coffee.

There are many other activities to enjoy in Foynes including our woodland trails with its twisty paths, a picnic area beside the banks of the estuary and a modern playground the kids can play in.

The village is just 30 minutes from Limerick City, so why not come and spend a day in Foynes?? You won’t be disappointed!!
