Things to do in Bruff

The ancestral home of one of America’s most famous dynasties - the Fitzgerald Kennedys, and within a short distance to Lough Gur with its stone circles, megalithic tombs, crannógs and ring forts, as well as being located in the Ballyhoura region, Bruff is a town that has something for everyone.  

Visit Lough Gur Heritage Centre

The town is full of fascinating historical buildings and features and is rich in local heritage and culture, all of which can be discovered on the Bruff Heritage Audio Tour.

Bruff is home to the Thomas Fitzgerald Centre, dedicated to the memory of Thomas Fitzgerald, grandfather of the 35th President of the United States, John Fitzgerald Kennedy. It houses a local heritage display, showcasing some of the unique history associated with Bruff and the surrounding areas. 

The Ballyhoura Garden Experience which brings together two wonderful gardens, two plant sales outlets and a local hotel in order to combine a complete, fantastic day out for gardening aficionados.

Bruff Slí na Sláinte Walking Route is a 3.5km route located north of the town and is designed to encourage people to get more active and get walking.

Home to Ireland's largest and oldest stone circle, Lough Gur has breath taking scenery along with a tree and fairy trail for younger visitors. The Heritage Centre at Lough Gur displays the rich heritage of Lough Gur through interactive multimedia exhibitions that brings to life over 6,000 of archaeology and history. Fully trained and qualified tour guides are also on hand to answer all of your questions. 

If you’re looking to do something a little different, why not try a pottery workshop with Lough Gur Pottery or art classes with Robert Ryan. Or the intimate setting of The Honey Fitz theatre, only a short distance from Bruff and close to Lough Gur, is the perfect venue to host dramatic groups and community activities including set dancing, computer classes and art classes. A collection of various artifacts and collectibles which were used as part of everyday life down through the years in Ireland, Old Irish Ways is a museum representing a true and unique reflection of a forgotten Ireland.
