Father Russell Road Active Travel Scheme

The Father Russell Road Active Travel Scheme is a project that has been delivered by Limerick City & County Council. It has been funded by the National Transport Authority.

The link provides segregated cycle lanes on both sides of the road from Quinns Cross to the junction with the Gouldavoher residential area.

The footpath and cycling facilities at Racefield Roundabout have also been upgraded, along with overall improvements to crossing facilities for pedestrians and cyclists at junctions.

Bus stops along the route have been upgraded, enhancing the current 301 Bus Eireann service that stops on the road.

Upgrade works to side junctions and new road surfacing has also taken place, enhancing safety for all road users along the Father Russell Road.

Significant landscaping improvements are included in the project, enhancing the visual appeal of the area.

The project will connect to Limerick’s Active Travel network via Quinn’s Cross, which is to be linked to the Raheen Roundabout. On the other side, the project will connect to the Active Travel facility between St Paul’s Roundabout and Ballykeefe Roundabout.

The project was delivered with assistance from MRG Consulting Engineers and site contractor P&D Lydon.

The Scheme was approved by Councillors via a Part 8 planning application in September 2022, having gone through a public consultation process.

The Scheme was completed and officially launched in October 2024.
