Limerick City and County Council has secured €6.56 million in THRIVE funding to transform the historic Fireplace Site on Nicholas Street into a landmark Design and Innovation Hub within the heart of medieval Limerick. The project will regenerate 35–39 Nicholas Street, conserving the surviving medieval fireplace and historic fabric and working with partners to establish The Forge Design Factory, a new centre for creativity that will provide studios, exhibition and retail spaces, and a café. This vibrant hub will offer opportunities for artists, makers, entrepreneurs and visitors, helping to bring renewed life and activity to one of the city’s most historic streets. The investment is seen as a major catalyst for the wider revitalisation of Nicholas Street and wider King’s Island. With both planning permission and funding secured and strong community engagement throughout, the project is positioned to progress quickly and deliver lasting economic and cultural benefits.

THRIVE is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the ERDF Southern, Eastern and Midland Regional Programme 21-27. The scheme has been co-designed by the Regional Assemblies and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage to address European, national and regional policy objectives.
