Planning Development Contributions

Section 48 of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended) allows the Planning Authority (Limerick City & County Council) to include conditions on planning permissions requiring the payment of a financial contribution – known as a development contribution. Development contributions are used to support funding for public infrastructure and facilities, which benefit development in their functional area and are provided by or on behalf of the Local Authority.

Development contributions are calculated based on Limerick City and County Council’s Development Contribution Scheme 2022. Section 48 of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended) provides guidance on the preparation of a development scheme and states the planning authority must publish a draft scheme and allow submissions and observations to be made on the content.

It is a function of the Elected Members (Councillors) to make a Development Contribution Scheme. Limerick City and County Council Members made the LCCC Development Contribution Scheme 2022 on the 24th January 2022.

For more details on Limerick City and County Council’s Development Contribution Scheme, including the basis for determining of the contribution scheme, exemptions and reductions, please see the supporting documents at the end of the page.
