Limerick City and County Council facilitated a workshop on 21st November 2022 (online) to share ideas for planting a small woodland along the Greenway in Castletroy. Led by An Choill Beag (little woodland) we are looking for your input into the plan for tree planting in 2023!
A total of 35 people registered for the workshop with approx. 18 people attending. The small woodland will be planted on the open area beside the Gaelscoil. The site is flat, has an established hedgerow, and space to plant a large number of trees. Its accessibility to locals and the opportunity to enhance what is already growing were determining factors when choosing the site.
The workshop identified the skills and knowledge of local stakeholders as well as their interest in participating in planting of the woodland. A number of planting ideas were proposed, challenges and solutions were discussed around signage, educational links with both schools and the creation of ‘guardians of the space’.
